PRE-ADOPTION TIPS

Before you adopt a cat, ask yourself…

1.     Will I have enough time to….

·        clean litter at least once per day.

·        feed twice a day and give fresh water.

·        groom with a brush every day or so (depending on the cat).

·        clip the claws every few weeks.

·        visit the vet for regular check-ups and for occasional health problems.

·        make sure that it gets enough exercise.

·        train your pet so that you can both live happily together.

2.     Will I have enough money to…

·        pay for the sterilization, vaccination, and deworming.

If not, call your local shelters for a referral to a reasonably priced vet they use (prices can often vary greatly)

·        pay for food, litter, and other accessories.

·        pay for licensing.

3.     Will I always care for this pet?

·        some people are just not cat lovers, we all can't be. Just make sure that before you get a pet that you know what kind of responsability you are getting into. They deserve a responsible home in which the owner is well informed and ready to take care of them for the rest of their life.

·        will you be traveling often for long periods and be leaving the cat to be fed by friends or family?

4.     Do I really know enough about cats to responsibly care for one?

·        even if you think you know all about cats, it couldn't hurt just to test your knowledge by reading this site, books, or other internet sites on this topic.
